Pre and Post Natal Friendly Classes in Bristol

Find support in a general class when you are ready

During your pregnancy and after you’ve had your baby, you may be able to attend some ‘general’ classes which aren’t specifically for pregnant or post natal women.

After the birth, you may want to relax, start some gentle movement or begin to strengthen your body again after childbirth.

New To Yoga?

During your Pregnancy

After 14 weeks (your first trimester) you can attend Pregnancy Yoga classes.  Look at our Pregnancy Yoga page for more information about when to attend Pregnancy Yoga.

Only attend general classes if you were regularly practicing yoga before you became pregnant.

After you’ve had your baby

Give yourself time to heal and rest.   Once you’re ready you could start with very gentle, beginners classes – such as Hatha Yoga, Shakti Yoga or Restorative Yoga with our highly experienced teachers.

We recommend waiting 6 weeks after a vaginal birth, and 12 weeks after a Cesarean.

If you’ve had surgery then please check with your doctor before coming to class.

In general classes, work according to your own energy levels and take rest when you need to.  Yoga is very beneficial during the postnatal time, supporting your mind and body and giving you some much needed headspace!

The teachers listed at the bottom of this page are best qualified to support you in general classes once you’ve had your baby.

When you arrive at the class please let the teacher know that you have recently had a baby so that they can support you fully in the class.

Regularly Practicing Yoga Before You Became Pregnant?

During Pregnancy

After 14 weeks (the first trimester) you can combine Pregnancy Yoga class with general classes if you have an existing yoga practice before you became pregnant.

Only attend general classes with our qualified pregnancy yoga teachers listed below, these teachers are highly experienced and can support you safely in the class.  During class work according to your energy levels and ask the teacher if you’re unsure of something.

We recommend Hatha, Iyengar, Restorative and Shakti yoga classes with the following teachers:

Tell the instructor you are pregnant at the start of the class so they can adapt the postures specifically for you.

Wait until after your first trimester to attend general classes (if you’re an experienced Yogi)

After you’ve had your baby

Take as much time as you need to recuperate and heal.  When you’re ready we recommend gentle, beginners classes with the teachers listed – such as Hatha Yoga, Shakti Yoga or Restorative Yoga.  These classes will help you to heal and strengthen your body after birth, and to relax your mind.

We recommend waiting 6 weeks after a vaginal birth, and 12 weeks after a Cesarean.

If you’ve had any surgery then please check with your doctor before attending classes.

When you arrive at the class please let the teacher know that you have recently had a baby so that they can support you fully in the class.
